Year Two

Well, I’d like to say that I will promise to do a better job blogging this year, but I really can’t. So, we’ll see how it goes.

After a wonderful summer visiting family and friends we are back in Fukuoka and excited to start year two. It’s nice that we are already settled, know our way around and feel at home here because we didn’t have much time before school started and Matt had to get back to work. We flew in Saturday and teachers were back in school Monday.

This year I am teaching 5th grade language arts and the other half of the day I am a reading coach and data coordinator. Pretty much 3 full-time jobs, but it’s a great opportunity for me professionally so of course I’m doing it. I’m so excited to see how it all turns out.

School started August 25th and I already love my class. Right now I have 17 fifth graders that I share with Brian, the other fifth grade teacher that teaches them math. The first few days we made a video for an assembly that will teach the rest of the elementary how to act at FIS. It’s pretty funny, so I’m hoping that Matt can upload it on here so that you can meet my class. We’ll see.

Matt and I are coaching volleyball again this year and started last week. Matt will be helping me with the girls and also the guys’ team. Although we have a great group of girls, I’m pretty confident none of them will be professional volleyball players anytime soon! But they seem to have fun and they are working hard in practice so that’s all the counts or at least that’s what I keep telling myself!

Matt is continuing to work for Vision Trust this year and is already back into the swing of things. He loves working from home. He has also jumped right back into road biking. He loves it. The other day he rode over 50 miles with a friend. He’s hoping that I will join one day, but I’m not quite sure about that.

Anyway, we are really excited for what this year in Fukuoka will bring. Hopefully we can keep this blog going but like I said, no promises.
